The trunk is the most overlooked part of a restoration. You can have a perfect interior and paint, but pop the trunk at a car show and a ripped, stained mat ruins the look. A new trunk mat or full trunk kit is a quick, low-cost upgrade that finishes the car.
Types of Trunk Coverings
- Molded trunk carpet: Shaped to the trunk floor for a clean, tailored look. Common on Novas and other GM cars.
- Trunk kits with side boards: Multi-piece kits that cover the floor plus the side panels and back. Great for a full, finished trunk on classic Mustangs.
- Trunk lid covers: Carpet that covers the underside of the trunk lid, used on many 80s cars like the G-body Monte Carlo.
Chevy Nova Trunk Mats
Nova trunk floors changed through the years, so make sure you match the year range. These molded loop trunk carpets drop right in:
Ford Mustang Trunk Kits
Mustang trunk kits come with the floor piece and the boards for the sides, so the whole trunk looks finished. Nylon kits are durable and resist moisture.
Monte Carlo Trunk Lid Cover
If the cardboard on your G-body's trunk lid is falling apart, a new cutpile lid cover cleans it right up.
Before You Install
Pull the old mat and look for rust, especially around the drop-offs and the spare tire well. Trunk weatherstrip leaks are common on older cars, so replace the seal if water has been getting in. A dry, clean trunk keeps your new mat looking good for years.
Shop all trunk mats and trunk kits by vehicle, or pair one with embroidered floor mats to finish your interior.
